The Lunugamvehera National Park was declared a nature reserve to allow the elephant protected hike from west to Uda Walawe Natinalpark Yala NP. He has also the right to protection for fishing areas in Lunugamvehera reservoir.
He was long closed to the public but is now open to all.The park is located in the district of Moneragala and extends to eg Buttala and Hambantota in the south and provides, inter alia, Elephants, bears, big cats, buffalo but also many bird and reptile species a home.
The Lunugamvehera National Park has so far reached via two access roads.
